About Shelby

This blog: First of all, it doesn't have a clear purpose. It's about my feelings, my family, my house, my journey in life, my teaching career, my love of all things organic and healthy, but it's not what it started out to be at all anymore. It started out as a way for me to hold myself accountable as I wrote my first screenplay. Well, I did that, but I didn't really blog about it. I then wrote my first book, but I didn't blog about that either. I've written about wanting to be a teacher when I thought I'd never be able to be one, and now I am one. I predict that, as I continue as a blogger, I will write about my new writing projects, decorating my house, mothering my child, being a wife, and a teacher. I guess this is just a place for me to write things whenever I feel like it.

About me: I am a mom turned activist and Healthy Child Healthy World's first ever Mom on a Mission in late 2009. My story was featured in People Magazine, Lifetime's Remarkable Women series, and is a highlighted story on the advocacy website Care2.

I have co-written a feature length screenplay in addition to writing my first eco-adventure, a children's novel titled "Polly the Praying Mantis: A Bug, Bat, & Human Eco-Adventure".

I am privileged to teach English to 9th and 10th graders at Elk Grove Charter school in Elk Grove, California.

My reason for living is to raise Elise, who is seven years old and in the second grade. I am married to John Rodriguez, and we have a smelly beagle, a feisty chiyorkie, and a grumpy fish named Alex.
